Hot Dog Vendors / Re: Chili and Condiments

I have tried chili but I have found that it is not worth the effort or the cost.  I agree with you on the basic, condiments.  I use Mustard, ketchup, cut onions, relish, hot peppers, banana peppers and kraut and my special sauce.  i figure about .05 per item for cost.  You will find that some most will only want mustard, ketchup, relish and onions but not all.  you will learn your customers.  start small and basic...DUGGS DOGGS GOOD!! check with your local health department, city manager, county (if working out side city).  you will have too have serve safe certification, a tax ID number and a operating commersary and make sure you have a location to operate.

the rules change if you only do festivals.

know what you are doing before you spend money...

Hot Dog Vendors / Re: Storage Ideas

I don't operate in PA but it is my understanding that you will have to have a commissary.  Knowing this I would check with the commissary location that you use for storage of your cart.  Duggs Doggs Good!! Good!!

Hot Dog Vendors / Re: How Much Do You Charge For a Regular Hot Dog?
« on: November 05, 2013, 08:50:13 PM »
Prices depend on alot of things but I would recommend that you use the standard that is use in most resturants (Food Cost x 3).  I use a all beef from Sams and charge $2.00.  The only other issue is tax, you may want to charge a set amount then include tax so that it rounds up to the nearest dollar so you don't have to make change.  Example:  $3.00 Hot Dog = $2.76+.24 tax = $3.00 for Hot Dog.  Good!!
